    The Legacy of Speedy’s

    Founded in Virgin Gorda in the early 1960s, Speedy and his wife Nidia started out with just a single taxicab and a lot of hope. Little did they know that this would lay the groundwork for what would become a legendary enterprise. Their early ventures included Virgin Gorda’s first diving school and island tours using a safari bus. That was until, in 1974, they introduced their first ferry, Adventure, marking the beginning of their inter-island transportation services. Over the years, Speedy’s expanded from humble beginnings into a leading regional ferry operator, boasting a fleet of modern vessels that now connect Virgin Gorda, Tortola, and other islands. Beyond ferry services, Speedy’s also offers car rentals, taxis, safari tours, and charters—providing comprehensive transportation solutions for exploring the islands. Following Speedy’s passing on March 28, 2018, the company continues to thrive, guided by his philosophy of reliability, kindness, and professionalism.     The company’s journey has not been without challenges. After the devastating impacts of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, Speedy’s Ferry Service had to temporarily scale back operations. Despite these hardships, their resilience and commitment to their community drove their recovery efforts. “We’ve been a vital part of the Virgin Islands’ travel fabric for over 60 years. We’re proud to have grown alongside the community,” Corinne reflected. At a time when many people lost their jobs, Speedy’s maintained their full staff and continued to serve the community. Today, they are actively working to expand their offerings, serving as a symbol of community strength and resilience that was displayed during those challenging times.

    One of Speedy’s proudest achievements post-Hurricane Irma has been increasing their schedule to include more frequent trips, especially between Tortola and Virgin Gorda. “We’ve really expanded our ferry schedules, now with boats between Tortola and Virgin Gorda, so visitors can spend 12 or 13 hours enjoying the islands and all they have to offer.
